It has been a very trying time since I have stopped this podcast; and I will be honest I often wonder why I stopped it…I mean after all this podcast is getting downloads to this day! People are still listening to this show!
I know that for me, personally, I lost vision of what I was doing, at some point in the path of doing this podcast it became about the money and the fame, not about Islam and being a Muslim convert. By losing sight of this and derailing my train I hurt myself, I hurt the listeners, and I hurt my deen.
So in the past few months I took my struggles to a group of people and I explained to them where I had gone wrong, I explained that I wanted to get back to doing this podcast…I wanted my online radio show back so I can talk about what Islam is!
I was told…in so many words…that I wasn’t the right man for the job.
Why this was I am not sure. I have my guesses based on some of the comments that were made; and I will say that it hurt.
Because I am a Muslim convert and an “outsider” does that make me less of a Muslim? Because I wasn’t raised in Islam does that my deen is weaker? Due to that fact that my skin is lighter than the rest of the people at prayer does that mean that I should be treated differently or that I should be looked at funny?
I took my frustrations to other people and I asked them if they struggled with these issues; and you would be surprised at what I heard. Not just from Muslim converts, but from Muslim Americans as well.
Muslim Americans and Muslim Converts have all said la illah ila Allah, we are all Muslim regardless of our color, our background, our education, our location, and the level of our deen. We should be treated as such.
To the Muslim Converts…you are not alone. We all feel like outsiders, we are all treated different, we all get looked at by our friends, co-workers, and family.
We are Muslims…and we all have the same struggles, we all have the same needs; but mostly we are proud to have said (and still say) la illah ila Allah. To the American Muslims…you are not alone. We all get looks, we all struggle to pray in the workplace, we all are tired of feeling like a spokes people for a religion that has been demonized through propaganda.
